Founder's Story

For most of my life, getting dressed was a problem to solve.
I grew up in New York City, where black is a personality trait and everyone looks effortlessly cool while walking very fast with coffee in hand. I loved fashion deeply. But as a woman who dressed modestly, it often felt designed for someone else.
So I became an expert in the workaround. Sleeveless dress? Shirt underneath. Neckline too low? A scarf, a pin, a prayer, and hope for the best.
Then I moved to Texas, and Texas did not care about my system. At 103 degrees, my carefully layered wardrobe became unwearable. I kept reaching for my Desi cottons, simply because I could breathe in them.
That was when the gap became impossible to ignore. I wanted clothing that was modest without five backup layers. Breathable without feeling casual. Covered without feeling heavy.
I had the training from FIT, the ideas, and many strong opinions about sleeves and linings. But I kept waiting for the right moment.
Then I became a mother. I did not want my son to see me waiting for permission, for perfect timing, for the fear to pass. The fear never passes. You just decide it is no longer in charge.
Avora Atelier was born from that decision.
For the woman who wants to feel covered, not buried. For the woman who loves beauty, but also needs to function in 100 degree heat.
Avora Atelier is the brand I once searched for.
And now, I am building it.
